Swiggy and Zomato Profitability Calculator for Restaurants

A Swiggy and Zomato profitability calculator should measure contribution per order after commission, discounts, ads, payment effects, packaging, refunds and food cost. The headline commission alone does not show whether delivery is profitable.

Enter your own contract figures:

LineExample
Menu value before tax₹500
Restaurant-funded discount−₹50
Commission/marketplace charge−₹90
Ads and promotion allocation−₹20
Packaging−₹30
Food cost−₹160
Refund/wastage allowance−₹10
Order contribution before fixed costs₹140

Contribution per order = Net restaurant revenue − all variable order costs. Use the exact tax base and fee definitions from your agreement and statements.

Why “commission percentage” can mislead

Commercial terms can include commission, collection/payment charges, logistics arrangements, taxes on platform fees, ads, visibility packages, discount funding, cancellation adjustments and other deductions. Rates vary by restaurant, city, service and contract. Never rely on an internet average when making a decision.

Monthly calculator

Monthly delivery contribution = Average contribution per completed order × completed orders − delivery-specific fixed costs

If contribution is ₹140 and 1,000 completed orders arrive, contribution is ₹1,40,000 before delivery-dedicated software, staff or other fixed costs. Compare this with the capacity used: delivery can reduce dine-in service quality during peak periods.

Reconcile the settlement statement

  1. Match every order to POS or order records.
  2. Separate completed, cancelled, refunded and disputed orders.
  3. Map each deduction to the contract.
  4. Check GST invoices and tax treatment with your accountant.
  5. Compare expected payout with bank receipt.
  6. Raise discrepancies within the contractual time limit.

Channel-level menu engineering

  • Remove items that travel poorly or create refunds.
  • Promote dishes with strong rupee contribution and reliable prep time.
  • Charge for genuine add-ons rather than hiding value.
  • Cost combos from the full ingredient and packaging bundle.
  • Measure platform-specific sales, contribution and complaint rate.

Should online prices be higher?

Restaurants often consider channel-specific pricing because costs differ. Review platform agreements, competition, customer fairness and applicable law before changing prices. A price increase that reduces conversion may not improve total profit. Test contribution and order volume together.

Ads and discounts test

Compare incremental contribution, not only extra sales. If a ₹10,000 campaign produces ₹30,000 additional revenue but only ₹8,000 contribution before the ad, it lost ₹2,000. Use a matched baseline and avoid claiming every promoted order was incremental.

Red flags

  • High sales but falling bank cash
  • Discounts without an end date or budget owner
  • No separate packaging cost
  • Refunds not tied to root causes
  • Staff accepting orders when the kitchen is overloaded
  • Statements not reconciled to bank deposits

Improve delivery profit

Standardise portions, update recipe costs, redesign packaging, shorten the delivery menu, improve photos and descriptions, control preparation time, reduce errors and grow direct repeat orders lawfully. Link the numbers to our food-cost calculator and menu-pricing formula.
