Best Hotel Management and Culinary Schools in India: 2026 Guide

Best suited forFor Hospitality Students

Updated July 2026. This guide compares well-established hotel-management institutes and specialist culinary schools in India. It is designed to help students create a shortlist—not to pretend that one college is best for every career and budget.

How the shortlist was prepared

The hotel-management section considers the 2026 India Today–MDRA and The Week–Hansa surveys, institutional reputation, programme depth, practical facilities and industry exposure. The culinary section uses official programme information because specialist culinary schools are not always measured fairly inside general hotel-management rankings.

In the The Week–Hansa 2026 survey, IHM Pusa, IHM Mumbai, IHM Bengaluru and WGSHA Manipal formed the leading group. The India Today–MDRA 2026 ranking also placed IHM Pusa and WGSHA at the top.

Leading hotel-management colleges in India for 2026

1. IHM Pusa, New Delhi

A leading public institute and the No. 1 institution in both major 2026 surveys considered here. It is a strong option for students seeking the established NCHMCT route, broad hotel operations training and a widely recognised alumni network.

2. Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, Manipal

WGSHA is a leading private option with programmes in hotel management, hospitality services and culinary science. Its official programme information highlights training kitchens, bakery laboratories, simulated hotel departments and industry relationships. Official WGSHA information.

3. IHM Mumbai

One of India’s most established government hospitality institutes. Its Mumbai location offers proximity to luxury hotels, restaurants, events and a large hospitality employment market.

4. IHM Bengaluru

A highly ranked government institute in one of India’s strongest markets for hotels, restaurants, technology companies and corporate foodservice.

5. IHM Hyderabad

A respected NCHMCT institute with access to Hyderabad’s growing hotel, restaurant, convention and technology ecosystem.

6. IHM Chennai

A strong government option with access to a mature hotel market and the culinary diversity of Tamil Nadu and South India.

7. IHM Lucknow

A recognised government institute in a city with a powerful culinary identity. Students should use the institute’s official admissions information for current NCHMCT counselling and reporting requirements. Official IHM Lucknow admissions page.

8. Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management, New Delhi

A well-known private hospitality institute in Delhi and a recurring name in national and North Zone surveys. Compare its degree structure, affiliation, total fees and placement evidence directly with public IHM options.

9. Army Institute of Hotel Management, Bengaluru

A recognised specialist option with a structured campus environment. Applicants must carefully verify eligibility conditions, which may differ from open-admission institutions.

10. Chitkara College of Hospitality Management

A notable private North India option. Chitkara reported strong positions in The Week’s 2026 private-college and North Zone hotel-management categories. Students should independently verify programme recognition, internships, fees and placement data.

Specialist culinary schools and programmes to consider

Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad

A specialist culinary institution affiliated with Osmania University. Its official course list includes a three-year bachelor’s degree in catering technology and culinary arts, postgraduate study, food-production and pastry certificates and shorter bakery programmes. Official course list.

École Ducasse India at Indian School of Hospitality, Gurugram

ISH offers culinary, pastry and hospitality programmes with international pathways connected to École Ducasse and Les Roches. It may suit students seeking a premium private programme with international progression, but the complete cost and pathway conditions require careful comparison. Official ISH information.

Symbiosis School of Culinary Arts and Nutritional Sciences, Pune

SSCANS offers full-time culinary degree pathways, bakery and pastry study and specialised training facilities. Its official information highlights kitchen laboratories, internships and industry exposure. Official SSCANS information.

WGSHA Culinary Science, Manipal

Students who want a university environment with both hospitality-management and culinary pathways should compare WGSHA’s three- and four-year Culinary Science options. Official programme list.

Hotel management or culinary arts—which should you choose?

  • Choose hotel management if you want broad exposure to rooms, front office, housekeeping, food production, food-and-beverage service, finance and management.
  • Choose culinary arts if you are committed to professional kitchens, food production, pastry, product development or a chef-led food business.
  • Choose hospitality business education if your main goal is leadership, entrepreneurship, asset management or service-sector management rather than becoming a chef.

A hotel-management degree does not automatically make someone a hotel manager, and a culinary degree does not immediately make someone an executive chef. Both careers require practical experience, discipline and progression.

Seven checks before paying any college fee

  1. Verify the degree, awarding university, affiliation and required approvals.
  2. Ask for the complete cost: tuition, hostel, uniforms, tools, examinations, transport and compulsory international components.
  3. Inspect kitchens, bakery labs, restaurants, front-office labs and student accommodation in person.
  4. Request placement data by role, employer and salary—not only a list of hotel logos.
  5. Ask current students about practical hours, faculty access, internships and hidden expenses.
  6. Check whether internships are paid, unpaid or require additional travel and accommodation.
  7. Compare the course with your intended career instead of choosing only by rank.

Personal perspective from Abhishek Chauhan

I studied hospitality in India before continuing my education internationally, including Switzerland and Canada. A famous college name can open a door, but the student still has to build communication, discipline, practical ability and financial understanding. Choose the strongest programme you can reasonably afford without assuming that an expensive foreign pathway guarantees success.
